Five Fun Valentine’s Day Ideas For Northeast Ohio Families
Valentine’s Day is, of course, about love. It is not only for romantic love; it is also for celebrating the love you have for your family and friends, and making them feel special is well worth the time and energy. In the busyness of life, it can be easy to put celebrating on the back burner, but a little bit of effort can make this Valentine's Day a fun one, one that you look back with fondness for years to come. After all, it's the little things that will be remembered years down the road - the little ways you showed them you love them.

With a holiday that creeps up as fast as Valentine's Day, it can feel like a frantic race to find fun things to do with your family to celebrate the occasion last minute. That's why we have taken it upon ourselves to bring you five fun ideas to help you make this Valentine’s Day one that makes your family feel treasured. You are sure to find an idea or two (or five) to make the day special in your household, so without further ado, let's get the creative juices flowing.

Five Fun Ideas to Celebrate Valentine’s Day With Your Loved Ones

  • Make Valentine’s Day cards together. This is an oldie but a goodie. There is nothing quite like a homemade Valentine, and friends and family will absolutely love receiving the homemade cards from you and your kids.  You can go the traditional route, with construction paper and glitter and maybe lace, or you can go the digital route and have your kids design cards on a drawing app and then print them out and mail them.  It really is all personal preference - your recipients will be delighted with your family's own personal flair.

  • Make some festive treats together. Valentine's Day cookies or a parfait or a trifle is a delectable way to enjoy the day, and any time you can have homemade treats is a reason to celebrate. Try some new recipes to find a new favorite or bake something tried and true - there's no downside here.

  • Take the family out to dinner. A dinner as a family is a fun way to show your loved ones undivided attention, and it gives the day an extra special touch. If you don't want to brave the crowds on such a busy night, get some favorite take out and have a fun dinner at home.  It doesn't matter so much where you go or what take out you choose, the important part is simply making the evening special for everyone.

  • Have a video call with extended family. Grandparents and aunts and uncles will feel so loved if you are able to take the time to video call them with your whole household. One of the most important things we all learned from the craziness of 2020 is that video calls can bring us closer together even when we are apart.

  • Do something nice for a friend or neighbor as a whole family. Shovel the thick Northeast Ohio snow from their driveway or leave them a cheerful surprise on their porch, like a favorite treat or an encouraging card. Spreading joy is a worthy way to brighten someone else's Valentine’s Day. This is an especially nice thing to do for an elderly neighbor, since he or she probably hasn't been able to do much in the last year.

  • Bonus: Decorate the house! Just because it isn't Christmas doesn't mean you can't have themed decorations. This is especially fun if you have younger kids - they can make paper hearts or use red, white, and pink streamers to add a festive touch to your home.

So there you have it, fun ways to make the holiday more than just a day to splurge on candy.  The time you spend together with your loved ones will become the memories that you cherish all your life. We could all use a little more intentionality, and Valentine's Day is a great place to start.

Making This Valentine’s Day One to Remember

However you celebrate, remember to show your family that they are important and precious. Here at Cobos Insurance, we believe that while every day is a good day to show your loved ones how much you care, Valentine's Day is the perfect opportunity to go the extra mile and spend quality time with the ones you love most.
